The Eastern most city of the Tri-Cities, Port Coquitlam is bordered by both the Fraser and the Pitt Rivers and the city of Coquitlam. Port Coquitlam was originally a native fishing village located at the mouth of the Coquitlam River. Today, it is a bustling city with a population of more than 58,500 and three major industrial/commercial parks providing solid employment to many residents. The total land area of the city is 28.85 square kilometres.
One of Port Coquitlam's best known residents was Terry Fox, who campaigned for Cancer research with his cross Canada Terry Fox Run which he attempted in 1980 upon a prosthetic leg after one leg was taken due to cancer. This modern day hero pawned a movement that still exists today yet was sadly forced to end his mission just outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario when his cancer unfortunately spread to his lungs. Terry passed away nine months later.
Port Coquitlam is a mostly established city with pre-existing housing yet there are certain pockets that have recently undergone development and re-construction. With numerous recreation and entertainment options as well as a natural backdrop, Port Coquitlam continues to rise in popularity year after year.

The North side of Port Coquitlam is mainly comprised of single family detached homes but also has a collection of townhomes and condominium buildings located close to Lougheed Highway. Single Family Homes account for roughly 42% of the dwelling units.
The South side of Port Coquitlam is where the majority of businesses and industries are located, just South of Lougheed Highway. It is close to this central business district that many newer condominium buildings have been constructed. Further South, single family homes adorn a number of neighbourhoods.
